We answer both in writing on the estimate before we touch anything. Here is where the numbers come from and what moves them for Lawton homeowners.
What a garage door repair costs here
Torsion spring replacement typically runs $125 to $300. Garage door cable repair or replacement also typically runs $125 to $300. A phone call to the shop gets you the usual range for your symptom, whether that is a snapped spring or a frayed cable. The firm figure comes after we have looked at the door in person.
A worn roller caught early costs less than a spring that snaps before anyone notices the wear. A cable that has frayed needs replacing. A cable that has only worked loose may need adjusting and re-tensioning. Both are cable jobs, but the parts and labor differ, and a door that looks fine from outside can look different once we have it open.
Each part and each hour gets its own line on the estimate.

What makes the price go up or down
The first factor is the part. A larger or heavier door needs a bigger spring and more cable and hardware than a light single-car door, so more door means more material.
The second is how long the problem has been running. A roller that is starting to bind is a quick swap. A roller that has been grinding in a bent track section for months has often damaged the track too, and what began as one line item becomes two or three. When we replace worn rollers, we also run the door through the tracks to check how it moves.
The third is setup time. Lawton's occasional hard freezes move the ground and framing a little, and over the years that can pull a track off its line or leave a door slightly out of square. Setting it back correctly takes extra time, and that time shows up in the labor line.

When repair makes sense and when it does not
We will say so if a repair is money thrown at a door that is past saving. Say a door has several rusted panels, a rotted frame and springs that have stretched past their life. One more repair there is just the down payment on the next one, and together they will usually cost more than a new door. We lay that comparison out on the estimate.
If you do end up replacing, the new door has to meet Oklahoma's current residential code, which calls for wind-rated doors. An older unrated door can reasonably be kept running a few more years with a repair. A new installation is a different job: we prepare the frame, mount the vertical and horizontal tracks, install the spring, pulley and cable system, secure the door sections and connect the opener.
If the rest of the door is sound and only a spring, cable or roller has failed, repair is usually the right call. If the door is showing its age in several places, replacement is usually the better long-term spend.
Getting a real number for your specific door
Before anything goes on paper, we cycle the door and trace the fault to a specific part. That means checking the tracks, springs, cables, rollers and the safety reversal, which we test with a 2×4 contact-reversal block. We also check whether the problem is one bad part or a symptom of something bigger.
If the door has been through a hailstorm, we look over the panels and glazing, and we note any damage on the estimate so you can see whether a repair solves the problem or only delays it.
